We travelled to the impressive Havant and Waterlooville to meet Man V Fat in a charity game as we raised funds for TRUK Listens and Portsmouth Down Syndrome Association on what turned out to be a beautiful day.
We started well and everyone was overjoyed to see Kat Saskia grab her first goal in a TRUK Shirt as she finished well from close range following a great run from Nicky Currall. Nicky had 2 good chances to double our lead shooting just wide and then straight at the keeper as we applied the early pressure but it was MVF who grabbed an equaliser when a speculative shot from 25 yards deceived Fluff in our goal and squirmed over the line. MVF then had a really good spell and created 4 good chances but failed to trouble Fluff whilst at the other end Nicky Currall had 3 good chances and Martin also saw a shot saved but we went into half time at 1-1.
Nicky Currall continued to look dangerous in the 2nd half and had two effort just miss the target and had one ruled out but it was MVF who grabbed the lead when a counter attack saw some great work from their forward lead to him having a shot saved by Fluff but the rebound was tucked away for MVF to take a 2-1 lead. We were soon level tho as Currall beat the keeper to the ball following a long kick by Fluff and we then took the lead when Currall and Martin linked up for Martin to score at the 2nd attempt after the keeper made a good save from the first effort. MVF would not give up however and again Fluff parried a shot only for a player to tuck the rebound in and it was 3-3! A brilliant finish from Currall put us back in the lead and Paddy completed the scoring when he volleyed the Gk’s kick out straight back into the bottom corner of the net to put us 5-3 up which is how the game finished.
Football again however was the winner and we were pleased to give 3 more players their TRUK Debuts. A good sum was raised for both charities and we will announce how much was raised for TRUK Listens when it has been finalised.
Big thanks to MVF for hosting us and for a great game.
