TRUK put on an excellent performance to win the inaugural Power League Christmas Cup winning 5 and drawing 1 of our 6 league games scoring an impressive 48 goals along the way to win the Cup in what was an excellent day in East London.

TRUK kicked off with a match against AFC Leyton, Lucy Copsey opened the scoring as TRUK started the competition on fire winning 8-1 with Lucy Clark grabbing a hat trick, Lucy Copsey and Maysa both bagged braces and Amber got herself a debut goal. Next up was Booty FC and TRUK grabbed an amazing 13-0 victory! Lucy Copsey bagged 5 and Lucy Clark 4 as TRUK put out a marker for the other teams.

Next up were Ballers FC in what was an amazing game. Ballers had won their opening two games and in their line up were players from Super League club Brighton as well as other players playing high in the Women’s Pyramid. TRUK however started really well and raced into a 2-0 lead but controversy came from the resulting kick off after the 2nd goal as stright from the kick off the ball smashed of a beam on the ceiling and into TRUK’s net. Bizarrely the referee allowed the goal and Ballers were back in the game. They (as they admitted later in the day) decided on a physical approach as Maysa and Lucy Clark were slammed into the boards in tackles that should not be on a football pitch yet the referee allowed play to continue. Despite their rough tactics Ballers were actually a very good side and from 2-0 down they raced into a 4-2 lead shocking TRUK who knew they had to work really hard to get something out of the game. Lucy Copsey pulled one back and then with the last kick of the game some excellent work from Quinn saw Lucy Copsey with just the keeper to beat and she slammed the ball home to make it 4-4 which is how it finished.

Another decent performance saw us beat our friends from Vibes FC 7-2 which left us top on goal difference with 2 games to go. We went into the match with Goaldiggers 1st knowing we needed to not only win but win big….standing in our way was TRUK’s number 21 Paula Griffin who was between the sticks for Goaldiggers! Paula in fairness made some really good saves but TRUK were ruthless as we rattled in an amazing 10 goals to win 10-0. We went into our last game V Goaldiggers 2nd team knowing that a win would all but secure us the cup and we put in a decent performance to win 6-2 and finish with 16 points the same as Ballers FC. Our goal difference of +39 beat Ballers FC who managed to finish on +31 and we deservedly took the cup.
